Well, here I am again, sewing up a new dress design by one of my favourite designers! I was lucky enough to test this gorgeous retro number. The "Audrey Retro Dress" by FooFoo Threads.
The Audrey is a PDF pattern that comes with sizes 6-12 months to 11/12 girls included - PLUS a bonus dolls size pattern!
This pattern suits sewers of at least confident beginner skills. It requires buttons & buttonholes - although you could use snaps (but as a button lover - I must say - go the button!)
The dress has three different sleeve options - short (as I've sewn), sleeveless and elbow length.
The sash is optional, the collar is not. However this dress needs its collar!
Three 3yr old diva skills in action! |
The skirt has two options - full circle skirt (as I've sewn) or straight gathered. Sometimes its a matter of fabric and the circle skirt is fabric hungry with lots of potential wastage. The pattern also has the option of adding a skirt ruffle. I made the FooFoo Threads ruffled petti to go under my Audrey.
I chose to use a quilters cotton, with a print that I felt reflected the inspired era of the dresses design! Big bold prints, including spots would really lend themselves to this dress. Along with some statement buttons......you'll have a show stopper!
The dress has the option of adding either back darts at the waist or elastic for an excellent fit. For my three year old's comfort, I decided on the elastic option.
The dress for ease has a front placket - which is a little unusual, but it is there to avoid buttoning the dress the whole way down - which you could in fact do if you chose to.
